Overview
The Scramble Tournament system enables you to organize stroke-play team tournaments where all players hit from each position and the team selects the best shot.
Key Features:
- Team-based competition (2-4 players per team)
- Multiple scramble variants (Standard, Texas, Florida, Vegas)
- USGA handicap calculation for fair NET scoring
- Tournament branding (custom logo and banner)
- Team management with player search
- Tournament type (Men's, Women's, Mixed) with tee configuration
- Skills contests (Long Drive, Closest to Pin)

- Cart assignments for teams
- Mobile-friendly interface
- Public, unlisted, or private visibility
Premium Feature: Creating Scramble tournaments requires an active Premium subscription. All users can participate.
Scramble Format Variants
Standard Scramble
All players hit from each position, and the team selects the best shot to play from next. No restrictions on whose shot is selected.
Texas Scramble
Each player's drive must be used a minimum number of times during the round (typically 3-4 drives per player for an 18-hole round).
Florida Scramble
The player whose shot is selected must sit out the next shot. This ensures all team members contribute throughout the round.
Vegas Scramble
On par 3 holes, the team must play from the worst ball instead of the best. Regular scramble rules apply on all other holes.
Team Handicap Calculation
Scramble tournaments use USGA-recommended handicap formulas for fair competition:
4-Person Scramble
- Player A (lowest): 25% of Course Handicap
- Player B: 20% of Course Handicap
- Player C: 15% of Course Handicap
- Player D (highest): 10% of Course Handicap
2-Person Scramble
- Lower handicap: 35% of Course Handicap
- Higher handicap: 15% of Course Handicap
3-Person Scramble
- Player A (lowest): 30% of Course Handicap
- Player B: 20% of Course Handicap
- Player C (highest): 10% of Course Handicap
Example: A 2-person team with handicaps of 12.9 and 20.7:
- (12.9 × 0.35) + (20.7 × 0.15) = 4.52 + 3.11 = 7.62 → Team Handicap: 8

Starting the Tournament
Adding teams does not open scoring — you start the tournament yourself when the field is ready:
- Assign every team to a playing group — Manage tab → Manage Playing Groups (see Managing Playing Groups below)
- Go to the Manage tab and click "Start Tournament"
Start stays locked until every team is assigned to a playing group. If the button won't go, check for teams still sitting unassigned — that's almost always the reason.
Playing Over More Than One Day
A Scramble can run 2, 3 or 4 rounds — the same teams on the same course, with each round's score adding to the team's running total.
- Set the count in Settings → Number of Rounds before play starts
- Start and complete each round in order from Round Controls on the Manage tab
- Complete Tournament stays disabled until every round is complete
Scoring During Tournament
Once a tournament is active, team members can enter scores:
- Open the tournament page

Troubleshooting & FAQs
"I can't create a tournament"
Solution: You need an active Premium subscription. Check your subscription in Account Settings.
"I can't find my tournament in 'My Tournaments'"
Solution: You must be either the organizer or on a team to see it in My Tournaments. If you were recently added to a team, refresh the page.
"Team handicap seems wrong"
Solution: Team handicap uses the USGA formula which weights lower handicaps more heavily. This is intentional for fair competition.
"Can't add a player - says already assigned"
Solution: Players can only be on one team per tournament. Check if they're already on another team.
"Logo/banner won't upload"
Solution:
- Check file size (logo: max 10MB, banner: max 20MB)
- Ensure file type is JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF
- Try a different image if problem persists
"I can't enable flights"
Solution: Flights require:
- Minimum 10 teams (set Max Teams to 10+)
- NET scoring type (not GROSS)
- If you have fewer than 10 teams, the flights option won't appear
"Flight filter isn't showing on leaderboard"
Solution: The flight filter only appears after you click "Assign Flights" in the Manage tab. Teams must have actual flight assignments for the filter to show.
"Flights seem unbalanced"
Solution: Use Auto-Balance mode instead of Handicap Ranges. Auto-Balance distributes teams evenly regardless of handicap distribution, preventing lopsided flights.

"How do I delete a tournament?"
Answer: Only the tournament creator can delete tournaments. Open the tournament page, click the settings icon, and choose "Delete Tournament".
Note: You can only fully delete tournaments that haven't started any matches. If matches are in progress, you can Cancel the tournament instead. Completed tournaments can be Archived.
"What's the difference between Fourball and Foursomes?"
Fourball (Best Ball):
- 2 vs 2 format
- Each player plays their own ball
- Best score per hole counts for the team
- More aggressive play style
Foursomes (Alternate Shot):
- 2 vs 2 format
- Partners alternate shots on the same ball
- Requires teamwork and strategy
- More conservative play style
"How are handicaps used in tournaments?"
Answer: Handicap allowances vary by format:
- Singles: 100% of handicap (full allowance)
- Fourball: 90% of handicap
- Foursomes: 50% of handicap
These allowances are set in Step 3 of the tournament creation wizard and follow USGA guidelines for fair competition.
"Can I change pairings after submitting?"
Answer: It depends on the pairing mode. In Open Selection, any captain can go back and re-edit pairings at any time — nothing is locked once you save. In Organizer Controlled, the tournament creator can change them the same way (captains stay view-only). In Turn-Based Snake Draft and Sealed Envelope, the whole point is committing to a pick — you lock in a selection, or seal and submit — so double-check your lineup before you confirm.
"Who can see match results?"
Answer: Everyone in the tournament (all players from both teams) can view:
- Live match scoring
- Completed match results
- Tournament leaderboard
- Photos and comments
Even if you're not playing in a specific match, you can watch it in spectator mode with real-time updates.
