How to Set Up & Manage Your Golf Bags

What is My Bag?

My Bag lets you define the actual clubs you carry so the app only shows your clubs when tagging shots during a round. No more scrolling past clubs you don't own.

You can also add optional details for each club:

Brand — e.g. TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist
Model — e.g. Qi10 Max, Paradym, T200
Typical Distance — your average yardage with that club (not shown for the Putter)
Loft (wedges only) — e.g. 46°, 50°, 54°, 58°

You can have up to 10 named bags — for example "Tournament Bag", "Practice Bag", "Wet Weather Bag" — and switch between them whenever you want. Your active bag is what scoring uses, and its name is recorded on every round you create.

How to Set Up Your Bag

Step 1: Open My Bag

You can get there from:

Desktop: Click Gear in the top menu → My Bag
Mobile: Tap the hamburger menu → Gear → My Bag

Step 2: Name Your Bag

Below the page title is a text field where you can name your bag. Examples:

"Tournament Bag"
"Practice Bag"
"Summer Setup"
"Wet Weather Bag"

To the right of the name field is a chevron button that opens the bag switcher (more on that below). Your active bag's name appears on your profile, in the scoring interface, and on every round you create with this bag active.

Step 3: Select Your Clubs

Below the bag visualization is a row of category tabs: Woods, Hybrids, Irons, Wedges, Putter. Tap a tab to switch categories.
Below the tabs is a horizontal carousel of club cards. Swipe left/right (or scroll) to see all clubs in that category.
Tap a club card to add it to your bag. The card picks up a colored left edge — green for Woods and Hybrids, amber for Irons, blue for Wedges and the Putter — and the button changes to "✓ In Bag".
Tap "✓ In Bag" to remove the club. Removing also clears any details you'd entered.
The progress bar shows how many clubs you've selected out of 14.

Empty bag? A blue tip card appears with a "Load Standard 14-Club Set" button that pre-fills a typical bag (Driver, 3W, 5W, 4H, 5i-9i, PW, GW, SW, LW, Putter) in one tap.

Step 4: Add Club Details (Optional)

The detail editor opens automatically as soon as you add a club. On mobile, a full-page edit overlay slides in. On desktop, the card flips in place. To come back to it later, tap the pencil icon in the top-right corner of the card.
Fill in any combination of:
- Brand — autocomplete suggests ~53 curated golf brands as you type
- Model — the specific model name
- Typical Distance — your average distance in yards (the Putter doesn't have this field)
- Loft (wedges only) — the loft angle in degrees
All fields are optional — add as much or as little detail as you want.
Tap Done, the X, the backdrop, or press Escape to close.

Wedge loft display: When you enter a loft for a wedge, the card image updates to match the closest available club photo (PW for 46-49°, 52° for 50-53°, 56° for 54-56°, 58° for 57-59°, LW for 60°+). Loft-aware names like "PW (46°)" show up in the bag summary drawer and on your My Caddie chips. In the scoring flow itself, clubs are tagged with the plain abbreviation — PW, SW, 7i.

Brand wordmarks: When you set a brand the app recognizes (Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, PING, Mizuno, etc.), the brand's logo replaces the club photo on the card front and appears on each row in the bag summary drawer. Brands without a logo file fall back to small uppercase text.

Step 5: Save Your Bag

The Save Bag button slides up from the bottom whenever you have unsaved changes.
Tap Save Bag — a success notification confirms.
If you named your bag, a subtle "Saved" checkmark flashes next to the name.
Your clubs are now used in the scoring flow.
The "Updated" timestamp in the header reflects when you last saved this active bag.

Multiple Bags

You can have up to 10 named bags and switch between them at any time.

The Bag Switcher

Tap the chevron to the right of the bag name field to open the switcher. It shows:

A list of all your bags, with a checkmark on the active one and a club count next to each name
An amber dot on the active row when you have unsaved edits
A trash icon on every row — including the active bag (deleting it just moves you to another bag)
A "+ New Bag" button at the bottom (disabled when you've reached 10)

When you only have one bag, no trash icons appear at all — you always keep at least one.

Switching Bags

Tap any bag in the switcher to make it active. Your working area updates immediately to show that bag's clubs and details.

If you have unsaved edits when switching, a confirmation modal appears with three options:

Save & Switch — saves the current bag, then switches
Discard — discards the unsaved edits, then switches
Cancel — stays on the current bag

Creating a New Bag

Tap "+ New Bag" in the switcher. It creates a fresh empty bag, sets it active, and clears the working area. The Save Bag button slides up — your first save is what keeps the new bag.

If you have unsaved edits when creating a new bag, the same Save / Discard / Cancel modal appears.

Deleting a Bag

Tap the trash icon next to a bag in the switcher. A confirmation modal asks if you're sure. Confirming permanently removes that bag — there's no undo. You can delete the bag you're currently editing; the app simply switches you to the next remaining bag.

You can't delete your last remaining bag — with only one bag, the trash icon isn't shown.

Common Use Cases

Tournament Bag — your tightest 14-club setup with brand + model + loft entered for everything
Practice Bag — a different lineup for the range or short-game work
Wet Weather Bag — different wedges or a hybrid swap for soft conditions
Seasonal Setups — Summer vs. Winter bags with different ball / distance assumptions
Coach Bag — a teaching set you keep separate from your gamer

Progress Bar & Club Count

The progress bar shows your active bag's club count: 12 / 14 Clubs Selected · 2 Remaining

The bar color changes as you build your bag:

Light amber (1-9 clubs) — just getting started
Medium amber (10-11) — building momentum
Full amber (12-13) — almost there
Green (14) — full bag, competition-ready
Red (15+) — over the USGA limit

When you hit exactly 14 clubs, the bar pulses green and you'll see: "Your bag is competition-ready." If you have sound enabled, you'll hear a subtle golf clap.

Smart Suggestions

As you build your bag, the app offers personalized suggestions based on what's missing. These appear as a green card above the category carousel with a quick "+ Add" button that adds the suggested club in one tap.

Examples:

"Your bag is missing a Driver — most players carry one for tee shots."
"You have a gap between your PW and SW — a gap wedge (50–52°) fills it perfectly."
"Your bag has 4 slots open — a fairway wood adds distance off the deck."

Suggestions disappear once your bag reaches 14 clubs.

Core Club Indicators

A small amber dot appears on a category tab when your bag has clubs picked but the category is missing its core club:

Woods — Driver
Irons — at least one of 7i, 8i, or 9i
Wedges — a PW or an SW (either one clears it)
Putter — Putter

The dot is automatic — there's no manual marking. As soon as you add a core club from that category, the dot disappears.

This is guidance, not a requirement. Some players intentionally skip these clubs.

Distance Gap Detection

If you enter distances for at least 2 clubs in your active bag, the app sorts them longest to shortest and flags any gap greater than 25 yards between consecutive clubs.

You'll see two indicators:

Amber dot on the right-edge bag drawer tab — a quick visual cue that gaps were detected without opening the drawer.
Distance Gap section at the top of the drawer panel — opens with the drawer and lists every detected gap:

"70-yd gap between 5 Wood (250) and 7 Iron (180)"

"Gaps over 25 yards may leave you between clubs on approach."

This helps you spot holes in your distance coverage and decide whether to swap or add a club.

Bag Composition Summary

Above the bag image you'll see a single muted text line summarizing the categories of clubs you carry — for example:

Woods 3 · Irons 6 · Wedges 4 · Putter

This is your equipment profile at a glance. Categories with no clubs are omitted entirely (no empty placeholders), and the putter never shows a count since you can only carry one. When your bag is empty, you'll see the prompt "Tap a club below to add it to your bag" instead.

For the full inventory with brand, model, distance, and loft for each club, open the Bag Summary Drawer from the right edge of the screen (see the section below). For tapping into a specific club to edit it, use the carousel cards directly under the bag image.

14-Club Rule

If you select more than 14 clubs, you'll see a yellow warning above the progress bar:

"You have X clubs selected. USGA and R&A rules allow a maximum of 14 clubs during a round. Tap a club to remove it."

Saving is disabled while you're over 14. Tap a club to remove it and the Save Bag button comes back. If you want to keep track of more clubs than that, split them across separate bags — you can have up to 10.

Bag Summary Drawer

Once you've selected at least one club, a small green tab appears on the right edge of the screen with a bag icon and your club count.

Tap the tab to slide open a summary drawer that shows your active bag at a glance:

Distance Gap section at the top (when gaps are detected) — see above
Club rows grouped by category (Woods, Hybrids, Irons, Wedges, Putter), each row showing:
- Circular club photo (loft-aware for wedges) on the left
- Club name with loft for wedges (e.g. "PW (46°)")
- Brand wordmark + Model (when entered) — same monochrome wordmark style as the cards
- Distance pill on the right (when entered) — green badge with the yardage

Close the drawer by tapping the X, the backdrop, or the tab again.

Tip: The tab does a quick peek animation when the page loads so you know it's there.

Using Your Bag During a Round

Once you've saved your active bag:

Start or resume a round
Open the hole stats drawer — the small bar-chart icon button on the hole (its label reads "Hole Stats")
The Tee Shot Club and Approach Club options now show only the clubs in your active bag
The drawer subtitle shows "Playing with {active bag name}"

2nd Shot Club: On par 5s the drawer offers an optional 2nd Shot Club as well, so you can record the layup (or the go-for-it club) alongside your tee shot and approach.

Your distances feed GPS: The Typical Distance you enter for each club powers the club read-out in the in-round GPS panel and the club-distance arcs you can switch on over the hole map. Fill in distances for the clubs you know and the GPS gets noticeably more useful.

No bag set? The app shows the full default club list — exactly how it worked before. No setup required to start scoring.

Switching bags before a round: Open My Bag, switch to the bag you want for that round, save (if needed), then create the round. The bag name is captured when the round is created, so historical rounds always remember which bag you used.

Need to edit your bag mid-round? Open My Bag from the menu, make your changes, save, then return to scoring. Past holes are not affected; future holes use the updated bag.

Where Your Active Bag's Name Appears

Once you name your active bag, it shows up across the app:

My Bag page — editable input in the header (with the switcher chevron next to it)
Your profile — green pill badge below your email
Scoring drawer — subtitle: "Playing with {bag name}"
Round summary — chip below the course name on your own rounds
My Caddie — club chips show enriched names from the active bag (e.g. "7 Iron" instead of "7i", wedge lofts like "PW (46°)")

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to set up My Bag to score rounds?

No. My Bag is completely optional. Without it, you'll see the full default club list when tagging shots. Setting up your bag just personalizes the list to show only clubs you carry.

Can I have multiple bags?

Yes — up to 10 named bags. Tap the chevron next to your bag name to open the switcher. From there you can pick a different bag, create a new one with "+ New Bag", or delete one you no longer use. Your active bag is what scoring and round summaries use; the others sit ready for next time.

Can I have more than 14 clubs in a single bag?

No. The app warns you as soon as you go past the USGA/R&A limit of 14, and saving stays disabled until you're back to 14 or fewer.

If you rotate clubs between rounds or want to keep a bigger inventory, create multiple bags instead — you can have up to 10, and switching between them takes one tap.

What happens to my edits if I switch bags without saving?

A confirmation modal appears with three options: Save & Switch, Discard, or Cancel. The same modal appears if you try to create a new bag while you have unsaved edits.

Does my bag affect other players in a shared round?

No. Your active bag only affects the club options you see when tagging your own shots. Other players in the round see their own active bag (or the default list if they haven't set one up).

Can I change my bag between rounds?

Yes. Visit My Bag anytime to switch between bags, edit clubs, or update details. Changes apply to future scoring sessions. Clubs tagged in previous rounds are not affected, and the bag name on those past rounds stays exactly as it was when you played them.

What happens if I remove a club that I tagged in a previous round?

Nothing changes. Previous round data is preserved exactly as it was recorded. Removing a club from your bag only affects future scoring sessions.

Does my bag sync across devices?

Yes. All your saved bags sync to your profile, along with which one is active. Set them up on your phone and they're available on your tablet or desktop too.

Unsaved edits don't sync. Changes stay on the device you're making them on until you tap Save Bag — so finish and save before you switch devices.

What if I don't see my bag in the scoring flow?

Check that:

You saved your active bag (tap "Save Bag" and saw the success notification)
Your active bag has at least one club selected
You're logged into the same account

If your active bag is empty (0 clubs selected), the app falls back to the full default club list.

What does the amber dot on a category tab mean?

It means your bag has clubs picked but is missing the core club for that category — Driver in Woods, at least one of 7-9 iron, a PW or SW in Wedges, or a Putter. It's gentle guidance, not a rule. Some players intentionally skip these clubs.

How does distance gap detection work?

When you enter typical distances for 2 or more clubs, the app sorts them longest to shortest and checks the gap between each consecutive pair. If any gap is greater than 25 yards, it flags it. Open the right-edge bag drawer to see the gap analysis at the top of the panel; an amber dot on the drawer's tab also tells you gaps were detected before you open it.

What does the amber dot on a bag in the switcher mean?

That's your unsaved edits indicator. It shows up next to the active bag in the switcher list when you have changes that haven't been saved yet.

Tips & Best Practices

1. Start Simple

You don't need to fill in brand, model, distance, and loft for every club. Start by just selecting which clubs you carry. You can always add details later.

2. Use the Default Preset

Not sure where to start? Tap "Load Standard 14-Club Set" in the empty-state tip card and customize from there. It's faster than building from scratch.

3. Match Your Real Bag

Select only the clubs you actually bring to the course. This keeps the scoring interface clean and fast.

4. Name Each Bag Distinctly

Give each bag an identity. "Tournament Bag" feels more intentional than unnamed and is easier to recognize in the switcher list.

5. Add Wedge Lofts

If you're a wedge player who thinks in degrees (50°, 54°, 58°), add loft to your wedges. The card photo updates to match the closest available club image, and the loft shows on the bag summary drawer and your My Caddie chips.

6. Watch for Distance Gaps

If you add distances, pay attention to the amber dot on the bag drawer tab and the gap section inside. A 30+ yard gap between clubs means you'll be between clubs on approach shots — exactly where strokes get wasted.

7. Use Multiple Bags for Different Conditions

Instead of cramming 16 clubs into one bag and rotating them mentally, create a Tournament Bag and a Practice Bag (or a Wet Weather Bag). Switch active bags before the round.

8. Update After Equipment Changes

Got a new driver? Swapped your 3-iron for a hybrid? Update the active bag so your scoring stays accurate. The "Updated Xm ago" timestamp in the header tells you when you last saved.

Example Scenarios

Scenario 1: Typical Weekend Golfer (single bag)

Bag: Driver, 3W, 4H, 5H, 6i-9i, PW, GW, SW, Putter (13 clubs)

Set up your bag with these 13 clubs. The progress bar shows amber at 13/14. The smart suggestion might recommend adding a lob wedge. During scoring, you'll only see these options.

Scenario 2: Serious Player with Full Details (single bag)

Bag name: "Tournament Bag" — 14 clubs with brand, model, distance, and wedge lofts

Driver    — TaylorMade Qi10 Max — 260 yds
3 Wood    — TaylorMade Qi10     — 235 yds
5 Hybrid  — Callaway Paradym    — 195 yds

Scenario 3: Player with Multiple Bags

Tournament Bag (active for tournament rounds): 14 clubs with full details

Practice Bag (for range and short-game work): same 14 minus the lob wedge, plus a chipper

Wet Weather Bag (for soft conditions): driver swapped for 3W off the tee, hybrid in place of the 4-iron

Open My Bag → tap the chevron next to the bag name → switch active bag before you create the round. The bag name is recorded on every round so you can always tell which setup you used.

Scenario 4: Player Who Rotates Clubs

Locker: 18 clubs across the season

You can't put all 18 in one bag — past 14 the warning appears, the bar turns red, and Save Bag is disabled. Split them instead: a 14-club gamer, plus a second bag with the winter and soft-conditions swaps. Switch the active bag before you create the round.

Troubleshooting

Save button doesn't appear

The Save Bag button only slides up when you've made changes. If you just opened the page without changing anything, there's nothing to save.

My clubs aren't showing in the scoring flow

Make sure you tapped Save Bag and saw the success notification
Confirm the right bag is active — open the switcher and check the checkmark
Refresh the scoring page if it was already open
Check that the active bag has at least one club selected

I accidentally deleted a bag

Bag deletion is permanent — there's no undo. You'd need to recreate it.

I removed a club with details and want them back

If you haven't saved yet, simply re-select the club and re-enter the details. If you already saved, you'll need to re-enter the details for that club.

I don't hear the sound at 14 clubs

Sound is disabled by default. Enable it in your app settings (sound toggle). Note: on iOS, playing sounds may interrupt background music.
